donkeysdiass

A site for and about the Democratic Party and it's politics (in the spirit of DKos-- I'm an unapolegetic Kossack myself) with the objective of helping to elect as many Democrats as possible in both this year and '08. For and about includes history and how we got here so we can figure out the road map out. And that covers a lot of ground. Add your two cent's worth. No refunds.Be advised this is very much a pro Wes Clark site.

Webb vs Allen--The Final Push

If one is to believe the polls, and they seem pretty consistant, Republicans across the country are not having a good weekend. Many
are looking at a pretty grim fate on Tuesday. Many races have not gone as the pundits would have predicted a few
short months ago. One of those races, which has to have a few of the gnomes in windowless basement offices reeling is the Senate race in Virginia. Here we have seen an incumbant Republican once touted as potential frontrunner in '08 (remember that ?) effeciently dispose of a healthy lead, completly eliminate his presidential potential and find himself of the the short end of the loser stick. George Allen has run an abysmal campaign, rife with gaffs and desperate scum slinging that has revealed both a fear of the written word and a gross exploitation of women in modern society. George Allen--College jock football player, crusader for womens rights. As if.

Allen is being beaten by Jim Webb, a reluctant politician and a strategists nightmare. Annapolis Grad. Marine Officer. Former SecNav. Author ( I have read most his books---practicly required reading for career military, as is Col. David Hackworth--both men are leaders). Citizen. And soon, after a great deal of hard work by many, many committed individuals, Senator from Virginia.

Allen has done little over the last six years to show that he deserves the title of United States Senator. He has little to demonstrate why he should continue to hold that position. He has done much, however, to demonstrate why he is unfit for further consideration of higher office. Those same demonstrations have proven that it is time for Virginia to not only consider, but enthusiasticlly embrace the prospect of a genuine peoples Senator. One who will represent his State well. One who will represent the U.S. Senate well. One who will represent and protect serviceman and veterans everywhere. A candidate who has already proven his leadership. And will demonstrate it when it count's, where it count's.

It's all over but the final, most important act. The speeches have been made. The baby's kissed, the grip 'n grins done. Time for the voters of Virginia to make their choice. My hope is they pick Jim Webb. That would be a good choice. But that's their decision to make. I kinda like this Democracy thing.

Sometimes it calls guy's like this to account.
